The dental implant process is planned individually. The stages may vary depending on the case, but they usually include diagnostic study, digital planning, implant placement, the osseointegration period and placement of the definitive prosthesis.
The first stage of treatment: the mouth, bite, available bone, gums, remaining teeth and functional and aesthetic needs are assessed.
The team defines whether the case requires a single implant, several implants, immediate loading, full-mouth rehabilitation or advanced techniques due to lack of bone, and whether titanium, zirconia or another solution is most appropriate.
The implant is inserted into the upper or lower jawbone through a planned procedure. It is performed under local anaesthesia and, when indicated or requested by the patient, conscious sedation may be considered.
Depending on the case, an early provisional prosthesis may be fitted or it may be necessary to wait until the implant integrates with the bone before placing the definitive prosthesis.
The final stage does not end when the prosthesis is fitted: reviews, hygiene and periodontal control are essential to reduce complications and preserve the result.
