    What are dental prostheses?

Dentures are medical devices designed to replace natural teeth that have been lost due to decay, periodontal disease, trauma or any other cause. They are designed to improve the appearance of the smile, restore the ability to speak and chew properly, and prevent misalignment of the remaining teeth.

They can be made of different materials, such as ceramic, metal, acrylic resin or a combination of these materials, depending on the patient’s needs and the location of the missing tooth. They can be customized and designed to fit the shape and size of the patient’s mouth, ensuring a natural and comfortable appearance.

In general, dentures are an effective and long-lasting solution to restore a person’s smile and oral function after losing one or more teeth.

What problems do dental prostheses solve?

Dental prostheses solve various problems resulting from tooth loss:

    • Deficient chewing: Restore the ability to chew properly, improving digestion and nutrition.
    • Speech problems: They improve articulation and pronunciation, favoring communication.
    • Changes in facial appearance: Restore dental esthetics, restoring lip support and avoiding wrinkles.
    • Self-esteem: Improve confidence and quality of life by restoring a smile.
    • Oral health: They prevent problems such as tooth migration, cavities and periodontal diseases.
    • Prevention of bone loss: They help preserve dental bone by stimulating the jaw.

What are the types of dental prostheses?

There are several types of dentures, each designed to meet different needs and cases.

Each type of prosthesis has its advantages depending on the specific case. To choose the best option, it is important to consult a Face Clinic specialist who can offer a personalized assessment.

    Types of dental prostheses

    Fixed dental prostheses

They are permanently placed in the mouth and cannot be easily removed. Included:

    • Crowns on implants: They cover a damaged or weakened tooth.
    • Dental bridges: They replace one or more missing teeth, supporting the adjacent teeth.
    • Dental implants: They replace missing teeth by means of a titanium implant integrated into the jawbone, on which a crown is placed.
    • Fixed dental prosthesis on implants: They are attached to implants in the jawbones to restore the functionality and aesthetics of the dental arch. All-on-Four and All-on-Six are advanced and permanent solutions for people who have lost all the teeth in an arch (upper or lower).
    • Complete fixed rehabilitation: It is designed to restore the entire dental arch, restoring to the patient both the chewing function and the aesthetics of the smile, with a very similar sensation to natural teeth.

    Removable dentures

They are those that the patient can take off and put on as needed. Within this category, there are several types:

    • Mucosal-supported removable complete dentures: This type of denture replaces all the teeth in a complete arch and is held in place by the support of the gum mucosa. They are ideal for people who have lost all the teeth in an upper or lower arch.
    • Removable partial dentures: These are used when only a few teeth are missing. They are attached by hooks to the remaining teeth, offering a practical and economical solution.
    • Overdenture on implants: These are removable prostheses that are placed on implants. They are more stable and comfortable than traditional partial dentures, since they are better fixed in the mouth.

    Hybrid prosthesis on implants

They combine elements of fixed and removable prosthesis. They are mainly used when there is significant bone loss and implants are needed to ensure a more stable prosthesis.

How much does a dental prosthesis cost in Spain?

The price of dental prostheses varies according to the type of prosthesis and the materials used. In general, removable prostheses are usually cheaper than fixed ones, and the cost also depends on the complexity of the case.

    Approximate prices of dental prostheses:

    Fixed prostheses:

    • Crowns: from 510 €
    • Single implants (including surgery and crown): from 1.300 €.
    • Dental bridges: from 1.400 €.
    • Complete hybrid prostheses: from 7.000 €.

    Removable prostheses:

    • Complete prosthesis: from 800 €.
    • Overdenture: from 4.500 €.
    • Partial prosthesis: from 500 €.

It is important to remember that these prices are approximate and the exact figure will be determined after a personalized assessment.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best material for dental prosthesis?

The best material for a dental prosthesis depends on the type and needs of the patient. The most common are:

    • Porcelain: For crowns and bridges, it offers a natural appearance.
    • Titanium: Ideal for dental implants due to its biocompatibility.
    • Composite resin: Used in removable prosthesis, more economical.
    • Zirconium: Resistant and esthetic, ideal for fixed prosthesis.

Each material has its advantages, and it is important to consult with our specialists to choose the most suitable one.

What type of dental prosthesis is most advisable?

The type of dental prosthesis most recommended varies according to the patient’s case. Fixed prostheses (such as dental implants or fixed bridges) are the most durable and natural. Removable prostheses are a more economical and flexible option, ideal for those who do not have enough bone for implants. The best option should be determined with a personalized dental assessment.
