What is the recommended age for Otoplasty?
The assessment should be individual, but in general it can be performed from the moment the child’s ears have developed and reached their definitive size(approximately 7-8 years of age).
In the case of prominent ears, this procedure may be recommended from the age of 5-6 years.
It is performed in our operating rooms, provided it is performed under local anesthesia and sedation.
If the patient is a small child, it is possible that the surgeon may offer the possibility of performing the operation under general anesthesia, in which case the intervention is performed in one of the hospitals with which we have agreements.
In the case of older children and adults, it is usual to use local anesthesia with or without sedation, so that the patient is awake during surgery but relaxed.
How long does the operation last?
The duration of the otoplasty operation usually ranges from one to two hours, depending on the complexity of the case and whether it is performed on one or both ears.
How long do I have to wear a bandage after surgery?
After otoplasty, it is generally recommended to wear a bandage for about a week to protect the ears and aid in the recovery process.
